After a long drought followed by months of record breaking rain, snow, wind and hail, spring is finally here with a vengeance. The parks are greener than they have ever been. Rossmoor trees have been greatly affected by the drought, disease and ground saturation and continue to be monitored regularly for health, maintenance and safety issues. Mature trees that were planted when the neighborhood was built continue to decline due to age and stress from environmental and biological issues. The recent winter rain storms also damaged one of our 30’ light poles at Rossmoor Park—actually bent in half by heavy winds. Further investigation of the remaining poles revealed rust and corrosion at the base as well as metal fatigue. We are in the process of replacing the 5 remaining poles. The Rossmoor Community Festival is nearly upon us and our annual summer events are being planned as I write this column. Keep checking our brand new mobile-friendly website for the latest updates. Finally, the RCSD would like to congratulate Cub Scout Pack 667, Den 12 (Webelos) for earning their Arrow of Light designation at their ceremony on Sunday March 12th.  In order to earn their badge the boys were required to interview an elected official.
